How the work reaches you

Hosts connect their booking calendars to Cleanavo, and a cleaning is scheduled for each guest checkout. Every open cleaning in your cleaning area shows in the Cleanavo Cleaner app with the room count, the work on the checklist, the date and time, and what it pays. You don't need to find hosts yourself, and you never invoice them: Cleanavo pays you for every cleaning you complete.

  • Claim the ones you want. Cleanavo cleanings are first come, first served. Cleanavo assigns no work, sets no minimum and keeps no acceptance rate.
  • Then it's yours. Once you claim a cleaning you see the street address and the host's first name, and at check-in the entry instructions.
  • Do the cleaning your way. Check in when you arrive, take photos before and after, and mark each checklist item done. The checklist says what each room should look like when you leave; the products, tools and order are up to you.
  • Can't make it? Release the cleaning before it starts, or send another Cleanavo cleaner with a cover code. You choose who.

Independent contractors, not employees

Cleaners on Cleanavo are independent contractors, not employees. In practice that means you choose every cleaning, set your own rate within the range below, and bring your own supplies and equipment. You can run your own cleaning business, use a business name, and work on other platforms or for your own customers at the same time. Cleanavo doesn't withhold taxes, so you're responsible for your own taxes, and you aren't covered by Cleanavo's insurance. The full agreement is the Cleaner Terms.

How Cleanavo pays cleaners

Cleanavo pays you per cleaning, at your rate. Cleanavo's base price is $54 for up to three rooms, counting bedrooms plus bathrooms, and $18 for each room after that. On Cleanavo, you set a standing rate from 1.00× to 1.40× the base, and you can change it whenever you like. Each host sets the most they'll pay at their property: if that's below your rate, the cleaning pays the host's maximum, and the app shows you both before you claim it. What a cleaning pays is shown before you take it and fixed when you claim it.

  • Nothing comes out of it. Cleanavo's service fee is charged to the host on top of your pay, never taken from it.
  • Tips are yours. Cleanavo takes 0% of a tip, and a tip never makes up any part of your pay for the cleaning.
  • Getting paid. Cleanavo sends your pay to your Stripe balance shortly after you complete a cleaning, and you pay it out when you choose. On Cleanavo, a Standard payout is free and typically takes 1–2 business days. An Instant payout typically arrives within 30 minutes and costs 1.5% of the payout, with a minimum of $0.50, once you've completed 3 cleanings and 7 days have passed since your account was approved.
  • If a host cancels late. If a host cancels a cleaning you've claimed within 24 hours of its start, Cleanavo compensates you.

Section 5 of the Cleaner Terms has the full rules, including the one case where a person checks a cleaning's record before its pay is sent.

What you need to clean on Cleanavo

  • To be 18 or older.
  • To be legally authorized to work in the United States as an independent contractor.
  • To verify your identity with Stripe, with a photo ID and a selfie, before you can see or take work. Cleanavo never receives the document or the photos.
  • A Stripe account to be paid. Your tax information goes to Stripe on its own pages, not to Cleanavo.
  • Your own cleaning supplies and equipment, and a phone for the app.

A person at Cleanavo reviews each new cleaner account before it's activated. Cleanavo doesn't check criminal records or references, and tells hosts exactly that: your identity is verified, and nothing more.

Do I need a licence or insurance in Texas?

  • Licence. Texas has no state licence for cleaning homes.
  • Insurance. Insurance is your choice. Cleanavo doesn't require it or check it, and you're not covered by Cleanavo's insurance. We recommend general liability cover for in-home work.
  • A business name. If you use a business name rather than your own, you file an assumed name certificate with the clerk of the county where your business is (Lubbock County, if it's in Lubbock).
  • Sales tax. Cleanavo charges the host sales tax and pays it to the state; it never comes out of your pay. If you hold a Texas sales and use tax permit, Cleanavo gives you a resale certificate. Whether you need one is a question for your own tax adviser.
  • Income tax. You're responsible for your own taxes. Stripe collects your tax form when you set up payouts, and issues a Form 1099-NEC through the same account when one is required.
